Q: i really need a voip but wasn't sure what to get. thanks in advance for the info.
A: When it comes to VoIP, every person will have a different opinion of any given service provider. This is in part because there are many, many factors that can affect your calling experience, besides the VSP (VoIP Service Provider). There are many variables like your own network situation and configuration, VoIP equipment configuration settings, how reliable your ISP service is (periodic Internet drop-outs), and just the nature of the Internet in general. In the end, you will have to just have to pick a provider, test it on a trial basis, and then decide to keep them or move on to try another service until you find one your are completely satisfied with. That is what I have done over the past few years. I have tested and tried various VSP's until I came up with a short-list of my "preferred" VSP's. Word of advice: Regardless of who you sign-up with. Do not drop your PSTN landline phone service, or "port" your current phone number (LNP - local number portability) to the new service until your are certain you are happy with their service. Just use the phone number initially offerd to you by the VSP for the trial and tesing period. Once satisfied, then apply to the VSP to have your old phone number from your PSTN landline telco "ported" to the new service. You must still have service with the old phone service in order to port to the new service.
